Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, has inaugurated a N4.1
billion flyover at Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of the
state.
The project, according to the governor, was designed, among other
things, to add to the aesthetic beauty of the oil-rich cities of
Effurun and Warri, which are the economic nerve centres of the state.
Uduaghan told a large crowd at the ceremony that his administration
embarked on the Effurun flyover to ameliorate the suffering of
commuters as well as facilitate quick transit in the Niger Delta
region. He thanked stakeholders in the area for not interrupting the
construction of the flyover, and implored motorists to drive safely
to avoid bringing sorrow to their loved ones.
"This flyover, which we are commissioning today, is one of the three
awarded by the state government geared towards improving

transportation and socio-economic life around the state. The one at
Asaba was commissioned last week while another at Warri is still at
its preliminary stages," he said.
Commissioner for Works, Funkekeme Solomon, noted that the flyover
would facilitate movement to the rapidly growing oil and gas industry
in the littoral states of Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers, and the huge
maritime activities spanning the Niger Delta coastline.
He disclosed that the contract was awarded at the total cost of
N4,180,665,615.06, adding that the "entire 447-metre long flyover
comprises a 120-meter long six-span bridge, two ramps of about 150
metres and 177 metres at the Sapele and Effurun approaches,
respectively."
"The entire bridge and ramps structure comprises of a four-lane dual
carriageway, with two lanes on each travel direction, demarcated with
New Jersey Barrier," he said.
The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Emmanuel Sideoso Abe I, thanked the
governor on behalf of the people in Uvwie Local Government Area for
the various people-oriented projects executed during the tenure of the
out-going administration.
