War medals belonging to a soldier who served in Iraq and Afghanistan
have been stolen from his Melbourne home.
The medals stolen from the 33-year-old veteran included the
Afghanistan Campaign medal, the Iraq Campaign medal, the Australian
Defence medal, the NATO, or ISAF, medal, and one awarded by the French
Government.
It is believed two men broke in through the front door of the Newport
house on March 29 and ransacked the home, stealing other valuable
items such as jewellery, computers and a PlayStation 4.

They were seen fleeing the house with a backpack.

Senior Constable Jason Tom said the thieves would probably try to sell
the medals, which were inscribed with the veteran's name and valued at
more than $20,000.
"We're just asking for anyone with information in the last couple of
weeks that might have had these war medals sold or attempted to be
sold, if they could contact Crime Stoppers with any information,"
Senior Constable Tom said.
"Obviously anyone trying to sell a war medal would raise some sort of
suspicion for a second-hand dealer or anyone, they're obviously quite
an important souvenirs to [the soldier]."
Victoria Police released images of two men they believe can help them
with the investigation.
The first man is described as being Asian in appearance, between the
ages of 25 and 30 and around 160cm tall with a slim build and short
black hair.
He was wearing light blue jeans, a light green jumper, green baseball
cap and reading glasses.
The second man is described as being Caucasian, aged between 25 and 30
and 170cm tall with a solid build and brown messy hair.
He was wearing a red jumper and grey tracksuit pants.
Police also released images of the medals in the hope they will be
returned to the soldier.
