<strong>Soji Taiwo, fondly called Omo Banke almost lost himself 
on Monday morning of January 26, 2015, around Ogba, Lagos, when he had a
 fist smack with an officer of the Nigeria Police.</strong><br />
<strong></strong><br />

His action, which took place at about 11:05am, surprised some of 
those who witnessed the event and concluded that the actor may have 
acted under the influence of alcohol.<br />

The actor reportedly threatened to slap a policeman who had 
confronted him around Area G Police Headquarters in Lagos, near the 
Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) building.<br />

According to an informer, who claimed to have witnessed the incident 
and narrated it, Omo Banke had hit a tricycle popularly called Keke 
Napep with the Honda Civic silver colour car he was driving.<br />
<em>“It was said that he was trying to make a turn at the Area G 
junction heading towards Berger when he accidentally hit the tricycle. 
And when he was confronted, he flared up, but it took the quick 
intervention of some street urchins in the area popularly called ‘area 
boys’ to calm Omo Banke down, who had threatened to assault a policeman 
who tried to settle the argument between him and the tricycle rider.</em><br />
<em> “He later jumped into his car and sped off without showing any remorse for the tricycle rider”</em>.<br />

Meanwhile, <strong>Nigeriafilms.com</strong> contacted Omo Banke on 
phone to get his side of the story. He urged us to drop the story, but 
denied ever threatening to assault a police officer.<br />

<em>‘Is it possible for a civilian to beat up a uniformed man in Nigeria?’</em> he asked in Yoruba language, <em>‘I would advise you do not write the story because there is no sense in it,’</em> he added.</div>

Morocco Banned From 2017, 2019 AFCON, Fined $1million

Morocco were kicked out of the 2017 and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and 
fined $1 million (€8.8m) for refusing to host this year’s event due to 
fears over Ebola, the continental game’s ruling body said.<br /><br />The 
Confederation of African Football (CAF) also ordered the Royal Moroccan 
Football Federation to pay just over €8 million ($9m) in compensation.<br /><br />Equatorial Guinea took over the 2015 tournament which ends on Sunday.<br /><br />“The
 CAF executive committee considered that, contrary to what the Royal 
Moroccan Football Federation cited, force majeure cannot be accepted for
 the benefit of the federation,” said a CAF statement.<br /><br />“CAF 
decided to suspend the national team of Morocco from the next two 
editions of the Africa Cup of Nations, 2017 and 2019, and to impose on 
the federation the regulatory fine of $1 million.<br /><br />“…they decided 
by a separate measure to be borne by the Royal Moroccan Football 
Federation the sum of eight million and fifty thousand euros in 
compensation for all material damage sustained by CAF, stakeholders and 
partners as a result of the decision not to host AFCON 2015.”</div>

Navy Warship Arrives Nigeria From China

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
The Nigerian Navy (NN) fleet friday received a boost with the arrival of
 the newly acquired warship, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Centenary F91, 
stealth Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV).<br /><br />The vessel which was 
constructed by China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Limited 
Shipyard, berthed at the NN dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos and was 
received by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Usman 
Jibrin.<br /><br />The OPV after its commissioning would be deployed 
alongside the other newly acquired vessel from United States, NNS 
Okpabana, to tackle the menace of maritime illegalities that bedevil the
 nation's maritime domain.<br /><br />The vessel set sail from the China in 
December and was brought back to Nigerian waters by the Commanding 
Officer, Captain Donald Okeiyi with his crew.<br /><br />At the reception 
were the Flag Officers Commanding, Western Naval Command and Naval 
Training Command, Rear Admirals JKZ Ango and BA Egbedina.<br /><br />Others 
are the Chief of Transformation, Rear Admiral Ilesanmi Alade as well as 
Rear Admiral Goddy Anyakpele, among other senior naval officers.<br /><br />While
 receiving the vessel, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, said the addition to 
the fleet would boost the navy's war against maritime crimes within the 
maritime domain like illegal fishing, arms proliferation, crude oil 
theft, smuggling and piracy.<br /><br />He said, "The addition of the 
offshore patrol vessel to the NN fleet would definitely enhance the 
navy's capacity to execute her constitutional roles and open a new vista
 in Nigeria-China relations.<br /><br />"Effective security is a 
pre-requisite for the economic wellbeing of Nigeria in view of the 
country's heavy dependence on the sea.<br />"I am glad to acknowledge that
 President Goodluck Jonathan recognises this imperative and has given 
unprecedented support to the fleet recapitalisation pillar of the NN 
transformation plan for the period 2010-2020.<br /><br />"The arrival of NNS
 Centenary in Nigeria bears testimony to the commitment and resolve of 
the president to emplace a strong and virile navy capable of protecting 
Nigeria's maritime interests against all forms of threats."<br /><br />He 
also disclosed that the newly arrived vessel was merely one of the two 
OPV acquired from China for the navy, adding that the second one would 
arrive Nigeria later in the year.<br /><br />Jibrin said a substantial part 
of the finishing and fittings for the second vessel would be done in 
Nigeria, in order to enhance Nigeria's indigenous shipbuilding capacity 
and create jobs for the unemployed youths.<br />Also speaking, the Consul 
General of the Republic of China, Kan Liu who was representing the 
ambassador said Nigeria and China had always had a cordial relationship.<br /><br />He
 said that relationship has helped bolster the trade volume between both
 countries especially last year to the tune of 18.1billion dollars.<br /><br />He
 said, "We have had very close relationship with Nigeria and deeper 
cooperation in various fields including military cooperation and we both
 benefit from the relationship."<br /><br />The arrival of Centenary has 
brought the number of vessels acquired for the NN to two, including

The News Agency of Nigeria learnt that the fire destroyed 25 rooms in
 the “female hostel block B” on Friday evening and so left 200 students 
without accommodation.<br />

The Provost of the college, Mr Musa Garba-Abdullahi, told newsmen on 
Saturday that the college had been closed and examinations suspended.<br />

“We have already started the first semester examination, which we are
 supposed to have completed on Wednesday, Feb. 12, but this ugly 
incident happened.<br />

“We decided to shut the main campus and the examination suspended till further notice,” he said.<br />

The provost, however, said that there was no loss of life because the
 incident happened while the students were writing their examinations.<br />

The provost said the state Ministry of Health was informed before the closure of the college.<br />

Garba-Abdullahi said a committee, comprising the police, State 
Security Service and college staff had been set up to ascertain the 
cause and extent of damage from the fire.<br />

The committee, according to him, is also saddled with the 
responsibility of proffering short and long term solutions to the 
problem.<br />

He said that the ongoing examinations at Tudun-Wada Kaduna and Pambeguwa campuses would, however, continue.<br />

The provost appealed to parents not to panic as all necessary measures had been put in place to ensure safety of all students.<br />
